In person or Online Counselling or Psychotherapy
What is it?
Counselling and psychotherapy are forms of talk therapy that support people in understanding their thoughts, emotions and experiences, and in finding healthier ways to cope with life’s challenges. Both provide a confidential and supportive space where you can explore what is happening in your life with a trained professional. Trying to cope with difficult thoughts and feelings on your own can feel overwhelming, and it’s not always easy—or possible—to talk openly with those close to you.
What is the difference?

Counselling
Counselling often focuses on specific life challenges or current difficulties. It can help you reflect on what you are experiencing and develop ways to cope and move forward. Counselling may be short-term or medium-term, depending on your needs.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy usually explores deeper patterns in thoughts, emotions and relationships, including experiences from the past that may still affect the present. Psychotherapy is often longer-term, allowing more space for deeper exploration and change.

Who is it for?
Counselling and psychotherapy is for anyone who would like support in understanding themselves, working through challenges, or navigating difficult life experiences. People seek therapy for many different reasons. You might consider counselling if you are:
- experiencing anxiety, stress or low mood/depression
- going through grief or loss
- difficulties managing life in general
- struggling with stress, burnout
- feeling overwhelmed or emotionally stuck
- working through trauma or difficult past experiences
- experiencing relationship difficulties or break-up/separation
- navigating life transitions or major changes
- wanting to develop greater self-awareness and personal growth
You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people come simply because they want a safe and supportive space to reflect, gain clarity and make meaningful changes in their lives.
How does it work?
Counselling and Psychotherapy provide:
- a safe, confidential, supportive and non-judgemental space
- for exploration of your thoughts, feelings, emotions, beliefs and patterns.
In counselling, we may explore:
- what is currently happening in your life
- where do you feel stuck
- the challenges you are facing
- the feelings or patterns that may be connected to these experiences.
How can it help?
Through therapy, people can:
- Gain greater self-awareness
- Process difficult emotions
- Build healthy boundaries – learn to say no
- Develop healthy coping strategies
- Improve relationships
- Feel grounded and supported
Therapy offers a space where you can slow down, reflect, and explore what matters most to you. Over time, therapy can support healing, personal growth and a deeper connection with yourself.
Through conversation, reflection and gentle exploration, counselling can help you gain greater clarity and understanding and find ways of responding to life’s challenges that feel more supportive and aligned with who you are.

Research in psychotherapy consistently shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship—built on trust, empathy and collaboration—is one of the most important factors in successful therapy.
